Wild orchids rise from a rocky bank beside slender bamboo, their long leaves drawn in single, confident strokes. A classic literati pairing of two plants long admired for grace and integrity, painted on a folding-fan leaf and signed and sealed by the artist.
Painted by Aisin-Gioro Yu-Yue (b. 1954), seventh son of the Song-Feng school master Pu Zuo and a fifth-generation descendant of the Daoguang Emperor. Trained by his father and his uncle Pu Songchuang, with guidance from Qi Gong, he is known above all for horses that capture spirit over likeness, and for orchids and bamboo in a restrained literati hand.
